Good books (fiction) about Asia?

Travel Forums Asia Good books (fiction) about Asia?

Before coming to Vietnam I read a really fun book called "Hanoi Jane" that was set in Vietnam. It's "chick lit" -- romantic fiction -- written by Elka Ray. As well as being an entertaining story, it gave me a good idea of what to expect in Vietnam. Now that I'm here I see that the writer's descriptions are totally spot on!

Can anyone recommend any other light, holiday reading (chick lit, adventure, humor) that is set in Southeast Asia? I read The Beach years ago (set in Bangkok and southern Thailand) but want more fiction set in the places that I'm travelling/

I've seen lots of books set in Thailand but most of them look totally sleazy -- like "I Married a Hooker" type of thing!

Thanks!

Katy,
I really enjoyed 'Up Country' by DeMille. Not chick lit, but worth reading for someone in HAN. Shows how much VN has changed since tourism really kicked off in late 90s.
