Is an onwards travel ticket really necessary for Argentina?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Is an onwards travel ticket really necessary for Argentina?

Hey everybody,

I have a one way flight into Argentina on the 26th of January. I've read that often airlines won't allow passengers to board with only a one-way ticket as they may be refused entry to Argentina at the airport, in which case its the airlines responsibility to fly them back home. Is anyone aware of ways around this? I dont really want to book a flight home yet as I want to see how long my money lasts for, and I don't know how long I wanna be there for either, would prefer to just see how it goes. Anyway, would an international bus ticket be enough proof of onward travel? Or does it have to be a flight to say, Rio or Santiago or back home to NZ?

Any help is much appreciated.

Have you already bought a single ticket? You should have bought a return ticket with an open return date. Two single tickets are very expensive compared to a return ticket.
