I'm going to Shangai next year (February/March 2004) and I'm going to stay there for 3 months. I extremely need a piece of advice about how to go round there and where to find a job (if possible). I'm also looking for a travel mate.
Please contact me!
I am currently living in Shanghai, and studying Chinese. I will be here unitil roughly
August this year.
Finding a job in Shanghai isn't too hard if you can speak a high level of english. Teaching
is very well paid here, and is flexible should you want to go travelling later on.
In my opinion the main things you should do in Shanghai definetly are:
- Peoples Square and Nanjing Road
- All the lively markets - Shang Yang (cheap clothes) Shin Tian Di (antique market); Nan Pu
Bridge (brilliant fabric market)
- The Bund is a must, and a walk around Pudong
- HaiKou Park - hardly any tourists, and in my opinion the most atmospheric part of
- Lively nightlife (Maoming Road; Park 97; Pegasus etc)
Im sure you would find all these things in time.
Should you want to contact me when you arrive, please feel free to call me on -phone
I am also very interested in finding a travel buddy for the time I am here, so please do stay

Thank you very much for your answer and for your advice.
Unfortunately I don't think I will go to Shanghai. Things have changed a little since I wrote
the message in this forum. If I ever go, I will visit my boyfriend for a fortnight in April. This
is not sure however, it depends on how much time and money I have.
If you don't mind, I will give my boyfriend your email address. Maybe he will contact you.
He is travelling alone and doesn't know anybody in Shanghai and he will be happy to have
a buddy, whom to go round with!
