Hey guys,

New year in sydney it is then, cant wait for the fun times to begin. Not sure what to do when, so much to see and do. Also going to do nursing on my travels, so got to see when im going to do that. Iv really not planned my route at all, thinking to go with flow and see what happens take the laid back approach lol.

I hope to save around seven grand, so i wont have to work so much and if i nurse then even more money lol.
How much are others taking ?

I would like to have around £4000-£5000 and of course my trusty credit card :)

Obviously you need $5,000 to prove you can support yourself so really anything above that and ill be happy. Going with the flow myself as I will just be happy to be in Australia.....It doesnt matter which part!

Would like to see as much as possible but if im really liking a particular place I will probably stay there. Cairns is great!

Hey julie, i need to get a credit card for just incase situations. Ive only been to brisbane and suroundings so im wanting to see alot of oz.

Il miss the eclipse im afraid.
Cairns gets really humid thats the only thing thats going to be a challenge. I want to work in random jobs, fruit picking or something. U up for new year in sydney?

Hey Jono,
Yeah i wanted to hit Cairns for the eclipse, wanted to do the marathon, but at over $3600 for entry and accommodation I thought sod that. Id imagine its gonna be monster expensive up round there at that time. Still not totally ruling it out though.

I got £7000 saved already, gonna sell my car before i go, should give me another £3500-4000. And between now and then i should really be able to save another £5000-6000. So hopefully if all goes to plan, £15,000+. But that has to last me all of my travels. Thus why i need to work in Oz so i can travel for longer after.

Hey guys, sad il miss the eclipse.

Jowah, ur savings are impressive, but as you say ur travelling for longer. I plan to work from jan for a couple of months, but have to stick to one territory, but not sure what one maybe melbourne/victoria. Its so difficilcult to decide where to go when. After that il be going with the flow.
Hoping a few people are up for new year celebrations in sydney.

Yeah, Just trying to get as many people together for new year as i can. I'll be on my own, and a seems like a few other people are in the same boat. And no one wants to spend N.Y on their own. So just keep letting people know i'll be there if they wanna meet up.

Saving wise, i've just started training for an Ironman, so training every day now, so spending money on booze and none essential things has pretty much stopped till July. So really apart from bills, everything else should be going straight in the Oz fund.

Yeah its a difficult one deciding where to go and what to do. But really, i hate making plans anyway, so as long as i can decided where to fly into i'll be happy. New year in Sydney, then head on, take it as it comes, no pressure, no worries.

Hey, dreamed of being in Sydney for NYE and so excited to finally be going. Nearer the time should all decide to stay at the same hostel or something to get to know people and then all join in on the celebrations together.

Going to save as much as possible, no luxuries from now onwards. Trying to have a minimal food fund and bill fund. Also trying to get some extra work to, every penny adds up.

Looking for backpack at the moment, not sure what size etc. Try to get one cheap in the sales.

I know best not plan to much dont wont to be restricted, thats the whole point of travelling. Just go with the flow.

Hi everyone,

I think thats a good idea about us all staying at the same hostel. Means we can all have a wee drink together before heading out :)

Im not too sure if I wanna be taking a backpack again.....them things are murder to carry about! Lots of backpackers actually just had a normal suitcase with wheels so Im considering that option. If you do get a backpack make sure its can carry 70ltrs. I had a 65ltrs one and kinda busted it open with all my clothes and stuff id bought on my travels

Joe I cant believe how much money you have saved already! I havent even started but then I got 11 months to sort that out. And Ive started doing the lottery so fingers crossed

Hey all,

We can defo have pre drinks lol, maybe find more people to join in.

Ive been debating the whole suitcase/backpack dilema, going to have a look in department stores, maybe get one in the sales. Even thought that i could save money and not buy a new one and use an old faithful suitcase...oh decisions decisions. Once i get one il have a bigger dilema on my hands what to take .

Im trying to get extra work, but no luck so far, mighty cut backs are ahead.
