I'm heading out early july to singapore, then off to sydney or cairns (not sure which yet) and finishing east cost around 10th aug.

I grew up in Cairns and used to work for a Dive Company up there. If you want a great diving trip to the reef with really friendly staff, try Down Under Cruise & Dive. They are one of the cheapest in Cairns and they really do have nice staff on the boat.

If you're looking for Accomodation - a couple of popular places are Gilligans, Nomads Serpent Backpackers, Dreamtime, Travellers Oasis

Good Luck with your travels. Hope all goes well!

I'm also planning on doing Cairns to Sydney probably between 12th March and 28th March, then onto NZ.
I know 16 days is alot less than most people, and won't get to stop as long at places, but is this still feasible??
I'll be travelling by Greyhound and will be having a similar itinery to the itinery mentioned by Kelly.
At least, Cairns, Airlie beach, Fraser Island, Brisbane, Noosa and Bryon bay before finishing at Sydney.
Appreciate I wont be able to hang around in these places too long though!

I don't mind one 16 hour journey but would like to break the others up, one of the posters on this thread seemed to know the journey times quite well?? Any suggestions?

Hi Kelly, I've just got back from Oz and did the East coast from Sydney to 1770, Agnes Waters and then back down to Sydney. I managed it in 3 weeks although it felt quite rushed! I'm actually considering to go back out for August as I totally fell in love with Oz! If you thought about doing the whole month of August in Oz I'd be up for being your travel buddy if I end up going in August! Do you drive? Would you consider traveling around in a camper van? That's what I did, although I didn't drive, my friend did!

yes i would a million percent love to do a campervan down the east coast! i wouldn't be able to do a month though as i am in thailand with some friends the week before.

What dates are you going?

Well I work on school terms dates so would be looking from end of April, beginning of August. What dates are you in Thailand? Are you definately looking to do the East Coast or would you be up for anywhere else in Oz?
