I am travelling to Australia on the 12th Feb and am arriving in Melbourne first before heading up the East coast. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any really good hostels for me to stay in, I am on my own so somewhere that is really good to meet people and have a fun time is perfect. Also how expensive to hostels tend to be in Melbourne/Sydney etc?
Any advice would be great - want to try and book a few nights before I head out there think its the best idea.
Hello.. Perhaps you could try the nunnery in Fitzroy. ? Google it and see. ?
I can recommend Greenhouse Backpackers. Its a super good location to be in and the hostel puts on several free/really cheap activities so you get plenty of chances to meet other travellers. They do walking tours of the city, pub crawls, dinners and Sunday breakfast to name a few. The atmosphere of the place is pretty social, I enjoyed staying there. I think it was about $30pn when I was there, this may have changed though so make sure you check that.
Thanks for your advice - Not sure whether to stay in St Kilda or Central Melbourne and just get trams to st kilda and the beaches whenever I feel like it. Have heard St Kilda is quite party orientated!!
