Does it take a while to recieve your tax file no in the post?. I was more worried about finding a job and the website said you could strat applying via their jobs board before you arrive in australia. I think my main worry is finding work :S .

Hey Gavin

Looks like your a lot more organised than I am, everytime I think I decided on something I change my mind! lol

St Kilda in Melbourne seems to be the place to be so I think that is where I am going to start, originally I was going to go straight to Sydney but wanted to see everything and thought if I didnt start there, I would not go and I dont want to miss anything :)

Hey Gavin,

Thats the only thing I still need to sort out a bank account and tax file no, ... I thought it wasnt possible to set up until you got to australia, how did you go about doing it?.

I think you plans quite similar from the sounds of it. I have looked at some websites for jobs but not sure whether I'd get considered since I'm not in the country yet. I'm thinking if worse comes to worse I will go find a fruit picking job, there seems to be lots of those advertised. (Though its never an ideal location).

I think I'd prefer to get a job in St Kilda, hopefully it will be possible!

hiya i set myne up throught sta travel cost me 50 quid but i think when i get there i just wanna crack on and enjoy it find a job not spend to much time messing about in banks ect!

As far as i know its near enough sorted the tax code starts the date i get there and the bank should be finalised before i go so i can pay some money in there before i leave!

Have either of u decided on hostels yet? sounds like st kilda is the wild loud and mental sound! sounds just like me!!

Fruit picking sounds good how ever sounds the employers can sound a bit of muppets like make u pick loads all day then when u go to cash it in end of the day they chuck more than half of what u picked in a seprate place say there no good so they wont pay for it!! then they still sell that stuff on!! how ever it goes towards getting your second year visa!!

I cant wait now keep looking at flights now just wanna book it!!!

I might look into that with STA, I'd rather turn up with everything sorted. Thats the last thing I have to do really is book a hostel, I have wrote down a few that sound good but still not sure what I will go with. I might book a few nights in central melbourne when I land and then hopefully go the St Kilda to look for work.

Yeh I'd rather not go fruit picking but it will do as a last resort if I cant find work. Have you decided whether you will be going to Melbourne of Sydney first?.

My flight is booked for the 6th Febuary but I am off to Perth just for a week to visit a cousin of mine. I fly to Melbourne on the 14th Feb and then will just be trying to look for work straight away. I might try and look on some job sites before and see if I can make any applications before I arrive.

Yep I'm on facebook! search Donna Percival =].

I'm looking forward to the travelling side and making plans, I just need to find a job first to make sure I can travel to everywhere I want to. I'm hoping I have enough money to do asia on the way back!

Hi all,

I will be Melbourne (albeit fleetingly) from 3 April for 5 days before heading to NZ for 3 weeks. Doing SE Asia for 2 months before Melbourne. Don't have a plan for those days yet, so would be good to meet up with fellow travellers when I arrive.

I've heard it's Melbournes Comedy Festival at that time so should be a great buzz about the place - if anything like Edinburgh's Fringe Festival!
