Hi All..

I am going to Thailand on the 23rd Jan and although i have my first week accommodation pretty much sorted, that is about it.. Just wondering what site people use to book any kind of accommodation?

I have heard Khao San Road is the place to visit in Thailand so will head there on the 24th when i arrive but any websites to book places to stay all around S.E Asia would be much appreciated.

Man < you have left it sooooo late < you should be booking your accomodation at least 4 months before < the best SITE < is Hostelworld as its secure, reliabe & trustworthy, however other decent sites include this one ^^& hostelbookers. And if your going somewhere super remote check out lonelyplanet & tripadvisor.

^ These are for hostels & budget acommodation.

If thats where your planning on staying I really honestly can't see there being any chance of you getting a decent cheap hostel as they will all be booked. If your willing to spend a bit more money you may get lucky.Im sure even the decent hotels will be booked too.

Sorry if this post sounds a little negative, but its the truth.

Hope you enjoy your trip though < Thailand is Fantastic.

Have I? oh, well we live and learn.. certainly wont do that next time.. I was just going to totally playing it by ear, but was reading some of the threads on here so might start looking at booking a few things, but as I dont really have any plans, its hard to do that. Although I think i will be going to the full moon party in early March so I will get booking for that..

Would i be right in saying there will be places to book around the less busy cities of S.E Asia? On week 2, I will be in Koh Phangan and will head off to where ever on there..

No problem, I would rather the brutel truth than been given false info so I appreciate that!! will keep a note of those websites.

I will!! thanks for your help!

Unless the entire travel scene of South East has completely changed in the last couple months, then FUNJONO is telling you nonsense.
I've been travelling around Thailand and other parts of South East Asia for years and I rarely book anything. No doubt these days with most hotels being listed online, more and more people are booking in advance (admittedly even myself sometimes), but the possibility of just showing up and booking a place is still no problem. I can say with almost certainty that if you went to a place like Khao San Road, you will be able to find a place without too much trouble. Most touristy towns in the region would be similar.
If you want to be on the safe side and aren't keen on roaming around for a bit and checking a few hotels out when you arrive, then I like A quick search shows dozens of cheap places available in Bangkok at the time you arrive. And that's only 2 weeks in advance, not 4 months.

seansutton237, dont listen to that drivel mate... you havn't left it late at all. You have done the right thing. Book the first week then just move around as you feel. Its best to go into the hostel and enquire. That what you can see what the atmosphere is like, how clean the rooms are etc. Its obviously a lot better to do that than over the internet. Theres no need to worry at all mate. Youve done the right thing. *Just read Degolasse post* Exactly that... The only place I would book before hand is in Koh Phangan if your going around moon party time.

There will always be acommodation available anywhere in the world but it depends if you are willing to sleep in a slum hostel or an overpriced one < the "known hostels" i.e > the recommended ones will be booked as your trip is only 2 weeks away < thats what I meant Degolasse < It depends on the person < for me im not fussy, I don't care about things like AC < all i want from a hostel is a clean bathroom and a central..ish location, which is what most people look for < and those places at a GOOD price will be booked < So you may have to spend some more money < thats all I was saying :D

You should be able to find something on hostelworld though < its a great website xx

Mate.... Honestly, you can have my word for it, you will easily be able to get a good priced, clean hostel without pre booking.

For Phangan, ive stayed in a lot of budget places, SK Mansion (think its that, def SK something, above 7Eleven on Haad Rin), PP Vislage did good cheap huts, um what else PK Mansion was good (me and 3 girls could have had something to do with it ;) If you want to spend a bit more Palita Lodge is really nice, owner is called Sue. Give her a email but its quite a bit more expensive than the others. Im over for two moons after India but not till maybe June/July. Give me a shout if your still around man
