I know but it makes you realise just how easy life can disappear.

I live in Plymouth. So you're quite near to me. That must be awful driving on that road with the floral tributes there. I saw them all when I was driving up to Cambs for my brother in laws funeral a few weeks ago.

I'm thinking of going either around November this year or the following year, dependent on money. I would go at the start of next year instead of the end but I wanna be on Bondi at New Year :)

Absolutely, get your a$$ in to gear and start saving that travel money!

Xmas on bondi and New year down the harbour. That's where its all happening this year. That's my plan anyway. Hopefully meeting a few others from this forum in Sydney then too. Loads of people will be heading out alone so thought may as well try and get together. So yeah, if your interested, there's plenty of us going around then so no worries.

Do you have any dollar saved already or not?

Thanks guys, your messages have been really helpful!

I definately want to bite the bullet and go for it .......I have some more questions......

1. How do you go about getting an Australian bank account?
2. I have found out today that they no longer do career breaks in my work , but there is a possibility of taking short term time off for 3/4 months unpaid....will this be enough time to get a taster of Oz/Nz?

Char x

1) I travelled round Oz, then NZ and Fiji. Then I went back to Oz and as soon as I got there I just went into a Commonwealth Bank Office and asked to set up a bank account. You need passport and proof of address (you can use a hostel for proof of address I think).
2) Three to four months is enough. But how happy are you in your job? Ok if you love it then you might not want to quit, but I was in a job I enjoyed, but I wanted more out of life. I packed it all in and left in September 2009 to travel and got back in March 2011, it was without doubt the best time of my life, I promise you if you do it you won't regret it.

Be warned though Australia is very expensive!
