Which Travel Guide for Vietnam?

Travel Forums Asia Which Travel Guide for Vietnam?

I've tried reading up past posts, but either I suck at searching for them or I couldn't find one.

Normally when I travel I get a Rough Guide (it's done well for me in the past, so I kept up with it). I'm normally on a backpacker's budget, and it seems to offer more to those standards.. anyway, I'm going to Vietnam for a few weeks starting March. Apparently the latest Rough Guide for Vietnam (according to ratings and things) wasn't very good, not very up to date. The next one comes out (as far as I understand it, though I may be wrong) around April 16th or something (after I return from said Vietnam). My options are either to get that last RG and go with it, or to see if there is something better I missed?

Just wondering what others went for. Maybe there's a new guide out there that I missed?

Thanks a lot,

Kat

Hi Kat,

I myself living in Vietnam. I strongly recommend you to go with the guide book Lonely Planet if you plan to travel Vietnam for some reasons below:

1. The author seems to understand deeply about Vietnam culture, nature and people.

2. All the information is quite updated and exactly with no mistakes.

And if you want to have a travel expert, you have me. ;)

Cheers,

Anna.

I find the information over on Travelfish.org considerably more up-to-date than any publication. Lonely Planet might be well written, but when it comes to lodging recommendations and pricing, it's entirely out of date and misleading at best. Vietnam has evolved considerably even in the last two or three years, and anyone depending on either LP or RG would be left out in the tropical heat!
