Hey everyone :)

I will be going to Europe in about 6 weeks time and will be buying a 2 month unlimited Eurail pass. (second class travel)

Once we have this pass, i need to know what is the best way for planning the routes to take? And also, in terms of reservations and seeing the actual train routes which are available, how do i do that?

We fly from London to Rome then have 2 weeks to travel around italy then fly from Rome to Madrid and have about 2 weeks there before flying to Paris. Then we have about a month to travel the other countries to return to Paris to fly back to London. The reason we have flights is because they were included within our round the world ticket.

Can someone please please help as soon as possible? I would really appreciate it!

thanks!

Hi, just be aware that with eurail tickets you often have to pay extra for some journeys, especially on the faster trains. There is also quite often a reservation fee as well that needs to be paid. I found that over 50per cent of my journeys required me to pay extra on top on the eurail pass.

I'm going to check out seat61.... but what advice do all you worldly travellers have on the Eurail pass. Jess and I will be in Europe for about 2 weeks or so with a travel plan that looks like this..
Zurich...Lucerne....Interlaken...Amsterdam....Paris...then we head off to the UK to catch up with family and friends.
Should I get the Eurail pass for our Europe stint..? We pretty much have all the accommodation booked/taken care of..
Thanks

thanks for the help everyone!!
Isn't the Eurail pass you get in other countries besides Europe a bit different??

I will check out the website asap!

There's a pass checker somewhere (i'll try and find the address and add it) which lets you put in your rough itinerary and it will tell you which pass is best for you, or if it's better to buy as you go, or a combination.

Isn't the Eurail pass you get in other countries besides Europe a bit different??

Yes and no. Eurail is NOT available to Europeans, and has more options than the European equivalent (i.e. you can do a selectpass which is x days travel within x days total). Europeans have Interrrail instead of Eurrail, which has a wider coverage (i.e. E Europe), but only works in zones and for consecutive days, so isn't anywhere near as flexible.

Gelli, if you could find the link to the pass checker that would be the great.... that's the only thing I really need to do.... to work out how to get from city-city, country-country....
I'm having a hardtime making heads and tails with the Eurail Pass site..

Found it again!! It's this place www.railsaver.com/

Have a play with it, and if you've more questions after, let me know, and if you have a specific itinerary, i can run it past some people and see if they can come up with a better/cheaper option over here.
