I am moving to Russia in a few months to live and deciding whether to buy a baby carseat in NZ or try buy one when we arrive in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Can anyone make any recommendations? I have spoken to a couple of New Zealanders who lived in Krasnoyarsk, and they said people do not tend to restrain their children/babies in carseats so unsure as to the standard of carseats available to buy over there.
I'm happy to buy one in NZ and take it over, however I do not want to find out that it does not fit the cars over there.
I'd appreciate any first hand knowledge and advice. Cheers
If you buy one that uses the seat belts to hold it in place, I think you'd be okay regardless of any car differences that might exist?
Hi there -
I live in China, and come from Australia. I make no attempts to answer what your question is about buying a carseat in Russia, but from my experience here in China I buy anything that comes with a safety standard (e.g. carseats, bike helmets) at home or in a country where I can check and understand that those standards are met. If you can fit a carseat in your shipping take it with you!
I think that you will find that they do fit, or as you say other children are not restrained, you might like to consider taking booster seats or seats that are restrained using the car seat belt.
Hope that helps you. Good luck with the move! What are you going to do there?

since 2007 it is a law here in Russia, so i am sure it is a lot easier now to find it.
I am from St-Petersburg and it is not a problem here, you can find all brands and all types.
Sorry I cant tell you about Krasnoyarsk, but i think it shouldnt be a problem.
Well, you calways can order one from internet if you dont like what they sell there, cant you?
cheers for the advice guys...have decided to take a carseat with me, that way I have it when I arrive at airport etc. In answer to aboo10 - we are moving there because my husband is playing professional rugby
Wow!! Sounds exciting!! We are expats in China (and I am the 'trailing spouse'), and I am always interested in hearing about other 'exciting' expat destinations!!
Good luck with the move.
buy it in Krasnoyarsk if you don't want to carry it. i never used one in Russia. my son was 4 when the law was passed '07, so it is not as oppressive as USA when i rent a car, i cringe at not having a booster seat... welcome to Russia!
