My boyfriend and I are starting our big travel adventure next month. We're starting in Peru, flying into Lima on 24th Feb.
Was just wondering if anyone had any tips/suggestions on where to go first? We're doing the Inca Trail in March (around 10th)
Do look around Lima. it has a number of attractions:
I found the Military museum above much better than the sparse gold museum below it.
Taxis in Lima are often local cars with a bit of cardboard in the window with TAXI written on it. I used them a number of times. They are cheap and I had no problem with them.
Most stay in the nearby Miraflores area, which has a variety of accommodation from good to bad. Look at the room before paying any money.
From Lima, you could go see the Nazca lines (7 hours away by bus) since you have about two weeks.
Have you booked flights to Cusco?
Cusco is easy to walk around and has some places of interest (you buy one entry ticket to get in all the places).
I popped into a cafe and ordered "chicken and chips". I had done little more than settle down when it was dished up. It was hot, fresh, cheap, tasty and there was quite a lot of it.
Cusco has a number of travel agents who will book you day trips to nearby attractions and onward travel.
I found Peru quite safe and while I had nothing stolen, Peru does have a reputation for petty theft so watch your money, passport, valuables.
I Peru there are museums to visit, lakes to ogle, waves to surf, labyrinthine cities to explore. While Lima is the nightlife capital of Peru, famous for its music and late-night scene. Good Luck and Have a great fun!
