does anyone know if the monsoon will affect my plans to visit various malaysian east coast destinations/islands in october? i really want to go to pulau tioman and perhentian, other beaches on the east coast, as well as the taman negara national park. will i still be able to in october? cheers, joey
Hi Joey, The monsoon will usually not b at its peak in Oct, it usually gets into full swing in Nov/Dec. But having said that it pours in Malaysia pretty much throughout the year. A lot of resorts/destinations on the East Coast islands are closed during the monsoon.
oh yeah, on taman negara 2 things to note: 1. I once went during the school holidays, the whole place was crawling with school children. trust me no wild animals (or peace & quiet) will be had when they're out & about. I'm not sure how u can check when the school hols take place (I live in Singapore now, and dont have kids so I'm not so sure), perhaps e-mail the hostel where u plan to stay or go somewhere remote & extremely rustic. 2. Get a permit. I got to the park & didnt even realise someone was selling a permit as the ranger's desk was not manned. When I got into the park & b4 i could ask about a permit, someone tried to make me pay a fine. I dont think its a scam, but just be aware it can happen.
Malaysia is rainy this time of year - but pleasant climat all year round.
there might be less tourists - so cheaper accomodation and more space for yourself
