Going for a hostel instead of a hotel indeed is a smart choice so you can maximize your budget on the recreational activities.
As for the food, you might want to try Filipino cuisines, i don't know if it'll suit your taste though, but from what i've heard from foreign friends, so far, they loved the food. Adobo is a must try, as well as Bulalo, Kaldereta, Kare-Kare, Lechon, Sisig, Chicken Inasal, Sinigang, all these have either Pork of Beef and Chicken meats on it, if you're a health buff, you can try out Chopseuy and Pinakbet as they both are viands of mixed veggies. Halo-Halo (a must try), Mais Con Yelo, and Leche Flan are some of the desserts you'd surely want to try. Mangoes, Pineapples, Watermelons are just some of the fruits you'd definitely love in your stay here in the Philippines.
The abovementioned foods you can order from local restaurants in the island, or better yet try Andok's or Mang Inasal restaurants, they serve mostly filipino dishes at a real budget-friendly cost.
It's also an experience to try Jonah's fruitshakes (i tell you, they serve heavenly fruitshakes more than enough to include it in my list of "why love Boracay") and Loco Frio's handy cocktails.
Locals are very friendly and they both can speak and understand English, so communication is not a barrier. Another tip, you can haggle with the prices when you're going to buy souvenir items at D'Mall or at the D'Talipapa
As for a companion, it would be wise to have a pleasant personality and befriend a local or a fellow foreigner when you go on a night out or while strolling on the shore so you're stay on the island will be worthwhile
......and don't forget to have a picture taken with the sandcastles done by the locals, they're really nice.
I hope this semi-lengthy list helps.
@chonapi Thank you WIll keep that in mind. Manz i can't wait to go boracay. Heard so many things about the beaches there. Weeeee!

looking forward your advise.
my name is adrian. Nice to meet you!
@Adrian, hahaha, you can start planning your vacation now. our last year's vacay in Boracay was sometime in the last quuarter of May up until the first quarter of June, the crowd isn't that huge at all, but you can still feel the summer breeze, but there's one point that we'd have to cancel our helmet diving experience for a day because there was an upcoming storm, hahaha so if a big crowd isn't a big deal to you, better go for a real summer adventure!
Thanks you are really helping me alot i cant waittt... seems like i want to fly now to boracay.
i love beach so much, i have seen many beaches in asia, well so far i still put my country is no 1, though i love phuket also, but who knows after i see boracay i can falling in love with philipines. hahahha
i wish to have a good companion, im a nice single lady, but no worry i will enjoy, and make friends with the local n foreigner there,.
i have things to do in manila first at the end of february fo my business, then i'll spend 3 days in boracay before i back to Jakarta
@Adrian, come and join me on 2 march then....
You seem like a really nice person, so searching for a companion won't be hard on you. If you have time we can go have a cup of coffee in Manila before you go to Boracay, and talk about the beaches, traveling solo (as i myself will probably be needing advice from you since ill be travelling alone last quarter of this year, kinda nervous.)... and girl stuffs, haha.
