Hi fellow travelers,

My husband and I will be arriving in Lima, Peru, on Feb. 2nd and we're looking to buy a used kombi or campervan to tour around South America. We've been scouring the online outlets such as mercadolibre, olx, patiotuerca and craigslist. Does anyone know of any other places we should check? What are the best local newspapers for classifieds, and which day has the most ads? Are there any used car lots in the city that anyone's seen to specialize in or carry many VW kombis or Westfalia campervans?

We're also trying to figure out what the government office is in Lima where we can get license plates or VIN run to check on the history of the vehicle, for our safety before buying.

Thanks! And happy travels.

Hey guys,
I am selling my car in Arica, the north of Chile (can only be sold in Chile). It´s a VW Kombi from 1990 and I just got everything which needed to be fixed or replaced done in Sucre, Bolivia.
It´s got a bed, cooker, cooking equipment, camping chairs, roof rack, etc.
I can be in Arica in about a week. The selling process would take max 3-5 days. The car has insurance till mid of April for Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil.
In the month of march a yearly checkup needs to be done in Chile (can only be done in march), in order for the car to be allowed to be driven on the roads - you will definitely get the paper and it´s not expensive, but you need to be in Chile in a city at some point in march.
When interested I´ll send photosd and more info.
Happy travels,
Benjamin
