The question was: Which island to go to for a month long stay. I met a Russian guy last year, who said he went to an island and rented a house for a couple of months. I want to that and maybe the author of thread is having the same thought.

I was told that apartments in Bangkok can cost up to 6,000 baht (and that is the cheapest but dignified accomodation). But it is the capital city, so I assume, you would have to pay for deposits and you can't just stay for a month.

Now in islands, do tourist have an option to stay for atleast 30 days or 2 months. I know one Japanese guy, who did that in Chiang Mai and l mentioned a Russian guy, who went to a lesser known island south.

I'll check out the links, you posted.

I have planned to do Flight of the Gibbons, White Water Rafting, Elephant Ride, and Culinary school while in Chiang Mai, does anyone recommend a great Culinary School. Also I was advised to check out some of the factories on the outskirts of Chiang Mai to see the silk worms and beautiful furniture being made. Can people weigh in on these above questions?

For accommodation.. you can try Ricos hotel, Patong beach, Phuket.. I really loved them. It is in the center of the walking street. It was run by a Dutch and I never seen a perfect place for your holidays to be more memorable. And if you are lucky...you might get concession.

Koh Sukorn. (Never been here, I like having people around and nice supermarkets, movie theaters, even cheap beer bars.)

Hey...

id reccomend Chaweng residence on the island of ko samui...ive been there the last 2 years and you can rent a room for 10,000 baht a month, huge double bed, kitchen, good size bathroom with hot shower, satellite tv,ac and private swimming pool..the hotel has around 20 rooms, and its very rarely full, which id what i love about it,very relaxing, quiet and peaceful yet only 2 minute walk from the bars and beach..the restraunt doesnt operate but they dont mind in providing you with cutlery, plates, glasses etc etc so you can eat in your room etc etc...theres a local guy, handyman who potters about in the daytime and takes care of any maintenance or problems and his girlfriend is the receptionist, very helpful and speaks good english..the hotel is actually owned by an italian guy but have only ever seen him a few times..

i stumbled accross this place by chance a few years back and have never looked back, its off the main drag so most backpackers and tourists dont know its there...

check there website out "chaweg residence"..you cant go far wrong!!!

p.s..take no notice of there rates on there website though,i think its a little out of date and as i say if you mwalk in off the street the going rate is 10,000 for 1 month!!!:)

I just booked a 5 day trip, and I chose this trip because it has a fatastic itinerary. So, you might want to get on some tour sites and see what they have planned. I booked mine through -snip-, but there are dozens out there.
