Good advice above, particularly about researching the budget airlines for cheap flights to reduce your travel time. A couple more tips:

1) Lonely Planet's "South-East Asia on a Shoestring" is an excellent guidebook, better than they offer in other regions. Buy this to help with your planning and covet it when you go away. With this in your bag, you can do most of your planning on the move which gives you great flexibility.

2) As a single female traveller, the best way to avoid hassle is to dress sensibly. If you care to observe, you would notice that girls who are inappropriately dressed get bugged a lot more. Always look to cover your shoulders and wear longer shorts. Singlets/vests and hot-pants will get you a lot of unwanted attention.

To give you a flavour of itineraries when you're in the region, I've got a few on my website. You can see itineraries plus my highlights and lowlights of the region by following the links to the Asian countries on this page:

Good luck!

Quoting kadrinkwat

Hi everyone

Im after advice, i've been trawling thought a million different websites and my brain is getting frazzled!

I have decided i am leaving the uk End of July and i want to be gone as long as my money lasts me, hopefully up to a year!
I am wanting to go to Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Bali, Philippines, Malaysia. And anywhere else in asia that people recommend.
I am a single british girl traveling alone i say girl ive just turned 30 but still a kid at heart!

I am just wanting advice on the best way to go through these countries, either on land or by air and in which order, do i get visas tickets and accommodation before i go or do i just wing it? Do i get a 1 way ticket and if so how does that work with people wanting proof you are leaving the country?

Are all these places safe enough to travel alone, i have common sense and know not to go out after dark and all that and im not a big drinker so will always have my wits about me.

Any cheap flight websites?

Kel
