@Rachael
no i dont think it is the done thing! looks like we just gotta find ourselves a very big backpack! lol!
don't think you need jabs. its just the normal recommended ones they suggest when you go on holiday, like tetanus, hepatitus etc.
thats good that you can carry on with your job! ive got a friend who lives in perth so hopefully she'll get me sorted with a job when i get there.
i'm defo doing the year! even if i want to come home i'm just going to stick it out! i'd be stupid to jack in the whole experience to come back to Birmingham!
Yeah i will do. well so far i have the grand total of £20 saved! haha! trying to get rid off all debts and debits then i'll start saving. im hoping to have about £4k to take with me. Think the min is near enough that anyway isnt it? im dreading finding out how much the whole trip will cost though!
Hey Emily!
That sounds exactly like what my friend has done while she's been out there! she worked/travelled then went to NZ and fiji then back to Oz. As far as i know she's been able to get really well paid jobs while shes been there. i had a look at working on the farms but i really dont know if i could do fruit picking for that long! i may change my mind though if i like it over there enough.
You're so lucky if you're going soon! really wish i could go this year but like your friends i wont have the money saved until march 2012. Unless i win the lottery then i'll be going in the next month or so but cant see that happening! ha!
Good luck with all your plans
xx

Yeah it wouldnt be so bad if they didnt want you to have a certain amount in your account! Im having to sell my car as well! Nightmare!
Im sure you will! Looks like theres people going out at all times of the year. I know what you mean about going solo though. You'll be fine. Looks like most people go out on their own anyway xx

Emily,
Your ideas sound amazing! Id like to go from Perth across to Melbourne and then up the great ocean road! Also anywhere in NZ as I've got family in the south island!
I'm worried about getting there on my own. Id much prefer to meet someone at the airport and go together!
The idea of 88 days of harvest work...hmm! I'm not really an outdoor working person! But maybe I could cope for an extra year??

Yeah I'd like to work. I'm a veterinary nurse and can get work over there fairly easily. I dont have anything set in stone yet though! Need to save first! X

Hey ladies...just stumbled upon this site today..and breathed a huge sigh of relief to see that you're all feeling exactly the same as me!!
I've decided to take the plunge also and go travelling solo..although only going for two months (not nearly as brave as some of you!!)
Im heading out in December this year, although was thinking of stopping in Thailand first - would love to spend New Year there - then off to Oz for around 5/6 weeks after that.
So if any of ye are planning to be out there around the same time let me know!
Vicki xx

Hey Guys, i came across this site today whilst looking to make a start on my travelling, i am very much the same as you guys with yours ideas around Oz etc, and going solo too! which seems to be the thing, but would much prefer like someone said meeting someone at the airport much more reassuring and fun
I have nothing set in stone as of yet, but i aim to go out for the end of/ beginning of next year, while i crack on with the saving until then. I would also like to work out there too, and cant rally say i'm fussed with what kind of work anything until i find my feet i guess
If anybody wants to get in touch for ideas, etc it would be much appreciated

Went to sta travel today to get some quotes on flights etc..not sure if this is the cheapest way..but good to get an idea..the guy was really helpful. Got quoted £1200 for flights from London to bangkok then to Sydney then back to London. If anyone else has any ideas about the best way to organise this would be much appreciated! Looks like I'll be in Thailand for a month from 5th dec, then oz after that for a month. Have looked into the ozintro and thaintro things and it looks really good..all positive reviews etc..think I'm def going to do that!! Anyone else travelling roughly same time as me?? All company welcome!! X
