Just come across this thread, I'm looking in to going to Sydney in September for a year. Feeling very nervous about going solo but think I just need to take the plunge.

Not really made any plans yet but looking in to starting in Sydney and going from there, will also be hoping to work to fund it!!

If anyone's got any ideas or how much I need to save that would be great, would be good to meet up with anyone going around that time, would make it less nerve racking!!

Hi laura/michelle, lots of people are heading out alone. i head out end of november for 3months. im sure we will even meet people in the airport. staying in hostels are the best way to meet people and hoping to do the same.

Im talking to a few girls on facebook from a travel buddies 2012 page. There are a few of us staying in sydney for new year and some staying xmas. thinking it will be nice to form a wee group for new year celebrations.

On the money side. i heard that you neeed a 1000 pounds plus per month, if that helps any.

Hi Guys!! My Name is Cathy, I'm 21 and I'm also travelling to Australia next year on my own. Saying that I am a bit nervous about doing it on my own and was trying to find some company. I was thinking about going over to Sydney for a month (because I'm going over on my own I wasn't sure how I feel about staying their any longer) I got some great hostel places cheap enough for a month on Hostelworld.com. If any of yee would like to know some places I found let me know! :D I was also thinking about flying to Cairnes, and go scuba diving in the great barrier reef! Iv seen pics and it just looks out of this world!! Anyone going to Sydney around November or early next year let me know...Also I was just wondering, say I go Australia in January, when would I need to apply for my visa, and any one know any good sites for visa's online?? Any help much appreciated!!

Cathy :D

Hi everyone!

I'm a 20 y/o (21 in 2 weeks) male who is heading to Australia at the start of December. I shall be in Sydney for new years and Christmas.

I'm a little worried about the money I'm taking over and wanted to talk to you all about it

Hopefully this thread hasn't gone dead? Only joined to talk to you lot!

Hey Tom

I know how you feel about the money sitch! Im planning on taking about 5k plus any extra i can save! Then fund the rest of my trip by working over there. I know you need about 4k in your bank acc to get into Oz.

Hope this helps.

I was taking about 5K too, but I really don't think its enough. Far from it infact. I think the majority of the time will be spent working. :/
