I will be arriving in Aus probably Dec/Jan time, Again im going solo and travelling for the first time, I have no idea where to go first and how much money I will need but looking to travel the east coast, I would also love to see NZ so I might do 6 weeks in Aus then to NZ, Apply for my WHV there and then head back to Aus to find work for a year and hopefully get an extension for a 2nd year, then travel the rest of Aus in between (im hoping )
I still need as much advice as possible as I feel like I have no idea how to do this lol
Travelling from ireland to perth in september, any advise on where to rent or when or where to do my second year visa, as a fruit picker or farm work, actually anyone any idea what women are expected to do as farm work on the whv? OR which shoul i do?! Also does anyone know does oz recognise a fetac qualification?!
I have booked my flights. Also travelling on my own!
I arrive in Sydney on September 11th. Joined this site as i'd thought I could get to know a few people in my situation! Gives me a bit of 'peace at mind' as I'll be able to go to OZ already knowing some fellow solo travellers.
Has anyone thought about going through companies like Oz intro? It looks good for meeting people/ having fun but it's quite pricey. That was the option i was going to go with but if I manage to meet people prior to travelling I'd sack that idea off and save myself £400!
i am also travelling to oz end of this year, and looking for a travelling buddy, if anyone is interested please email me as i am travelling alone
thanks lorna x
Well a lot of people say you need $100 per day. $50 for hostel, $25 for food and $25 for activities. Thats about £16 for food, £16 for activities and £32 for a hostel.
Hostels seem to range between $30 - $40 per night - So that's perhaps slightly higher. I'd probably spend slightly less on food and slightly more on activities. All in all, I'd say $80 per day?
Now, like you, I'm planning on taking £5K = $7.5K AUD (It's actually slightly lower, you wouldn't get the exchange rate that google gives)
Lets do $80x365 for the year and that's $29,200 (£19K - Seems reasonable for budget living in the UK and they are similar in costs?). That is Leaving us $22K short. Now, the minimum wage in Australia is about $19.20 I think. So let's work out how many hours work are needed to raise the extra fees? 22K/19.20 = Getting straight to the point, 7 Months work at 37 hours per week. I'm a little worried about where the traveling will fit into this?
I hope I'm wrong, please persuade me otherwise. This is what is going around in my head at the moment.
Im planning on having 4500-5000 aus dollars for when i travel out there but with hopefully a job lined up before i go (which i know wont be easy to come across)
Does anyone think this would be a sufficient amount to take just to get started.
Hi Everyone :D
As I sit here and look at the thick rain pouring down in my depressing office, reading this post has me 100% sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm 26 and have been saving about a year. I'm hoping to have 4k and want to leave for Sydney Nov 2012.
I am also going on my own and would really love if maybe a few of us could meet up or travel together.
I have know idea what I want to do, but all I know is I want to leave the UK and party and work hard travelling around.
If anyone wants to get in touch, add me on facebook, it will be good to throw so ideas about.
Hopefully speak to you all soon
Just stumbled upon this post! I'm also heading to Oz solo - prob in September or so!! I've currently traveled for about a year and a half solo through South America and NZ...its been amazing! It is kinda scary setting off on your own - but well worth it in the end..and its not often ur on ur own either! Best plan is to be open minded and go with the flow! Its also good to have people lined up to meet in diff places even if it only works out for a couple of days or so!!
My plan is vague at the mo...im thinking of flying into Brizzy and trying to get Farm work or something for the first couple of months. Im broke after NZ so need to build up some cash to travel Oz! Im thinking of then travelling up/down the east coast for a bit, and maybe get to the NT & the west coast too! Plan is very vague at the mo and constantly changing!! I just wanna head somewhere to meet people and work first off and then do some travel!
I'm not even sure about the farm work - i hear money is good in Oz so work anywhere that pays well is an option at the mo!! But all i do know is i wanna have lots of fun, partying and general good times along the way!!!!!
It would be great to get in contact with others thinking of doing the same thing....or even for trips that people want to do over the course of their stay in oz, it would be good to have some contacts!
Send me a msg if you wanna get in touch and ill send you my FB details!
