Ok so I am going on a working holiday round Oz.

Hoping to stay a year.

If I already have my flights, insurance and visas. How much realistically should I need for accommodation, food and activities etc?

Jo

The figure I mostly give people is a very rough average of AUD $65/day, which allows you to stay in small dorm rooms in decent quality hostels, travel around Australia by public transport about once a week, buy supermarket food to cook your own meals with, and do the occasional activity (think platypus watching rather than skydiving). You could easily spend 2-3 times as much if you like to go out partying frequently, do several activities per week, eat at restaurants, etc, and there's quite a few people who've found they've blown through their money way faster than expected like that.

When working and thus (presumably) staying in one place for a long time, you can save quite a bit of money by staying in a flatshare or somesuch, plus you won't have the long distance transport costs; but for the rest of the time, that figure should be a good guide. Do watch you actual expenses when there.

Hi Sander

Thanks so much for your answer. I am not much of a party animal so the figure you gave seems like it's something I could stick to. :)

So your saying at $65 BUCKS a day, £45 sterling... About £310 a weeks n for 185 days works out to £56,809 lmfao!! So for like 7 months its going to cost you 60K n let's say for a year 100k! Are you saying the average Aussie is earning $120K a year?

No, £45 sterling per day works out at around £8300 for 185 days, which sounds about right to me. That would roughly equate to what I spent travelling Australia, staying in dorms and cooking in hostels etc, as Sander suggested.

Not quite sure where you got taught maths Brolli, but you are slightly out! The figure Sander gave is broadly about right. Australia is an expensive place, but the pay reflects that is what I found
