Need to decide on starting point, Perth or Sydney?

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Need to decide on starting point, Perth or Sydney?

Me and my boyfriend have a WHV and want to go Oz in June'12 (we have to be back by May'13 for my best friends wedding!) but dont know where to start.

My Auntie lives in Perth and the weather will be lovely in June BUT we want to make lots of friends and so think we'd rather stay in a hostel first than stay with the family. Then if we get mega skint during our stay we can go to Perth and stay with her for free :)

BUT Sydney is supposed to be chilly in June is this right? If so, where else could we go as a starting point that would be nice weather and have plenty of work?

Many thanks

Elton is right, there isn't really a wrong or right way to do it. June in Sydney can still be quite nice, then make your way north as it gets colder. That whole east coast has the greatest population of Australia, so probably more chance of getting work there. Definitely save Melbourne for summer, as its miserable in winter but amazing in summer.

And don't forget that there will be a solar eclipse on Nov 14th, visible in Cairns.
