Dear Steff,
Firstly India is safe. I think you need to leave all stories behind if you want to enjoy your travel in India. You can stay at -snip- if you like to interact with locals or you can also stay at budget hotels in Pharganj area In Pharganj the room rates starts with 350 INR or depends...

Going to Rajasthan you can either take a train. Which can be booked 1 day in advance on tourist quota or you can take a Bus. There is very good service by http://rsrtc.rajasthan.gov.in/ on following domain you can book bus tickets from Delhi and then so on you can make your travel plans.

In delhi its better to book hotel in advance. Since you are coming quite early. Rest places you can book either in advance or on arrival.

Dear travelers,

I am traveling alone to India on the 24th of March... I am very excited, but also a bit scared. I suppose to go with a friend of mine but she cancelled because of personal reasons. So now I am on my own, which makes it really exciting! However after the stories I heard I became a bit afraid as India is not the easiest country to do my first "alone travels"....

I am landing in New Delhi at 5:00 am and I was thinking of booking a Hotel for the 1st 2 nights. Check the city and move of to Rajasthan area. Then I want to fly to Kerala and from there travel by trein to Goa and eventually Mumbai. I have 4 weeks to do all this... No plan or bookings done yet.

  • Do you have suggestions, recommendations?
  • Where is best to spend my first 2 nights in Delhi?
  • How can I travel best from Delhi to Jodhpur? How long does it take by trein?
  • Which places are worth to visit and Rajasthan? And can I book a hotel after arrival and not in advance?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Steffi

Hello Steffi,

Best place to book your hotel in Delhi is Connaught Place. It is located at center of New Delhi and nea rby all the tourist places and shopping areas of Delhi.

The major popular cities of rajasthan are Jaipur, Udaipur, Bikaner Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. You should aslo include Taj Mahal (in agra, Uttar Pradesh) in your India tour.

I suggest you to book your tour from tour operator check for [snip].

Thanks,
Jitender

It's actually a shame to help miss Rajasthan, but thinking about it's your first-time in Asia, and you are alone, it maybe best if you do as you say and also head southern. Since you only have 4 weeks, spending all of it in this south can make it a lesser amount of stressful. You can easily spend 4 weeks traveling about Goa, and Kerala that has a trip available to Ham pi far too, then away to Mumbai.
