looking to make a trip out to NYC this summer. Has anyone ever stayed across the river in NJ to save money and taken the PATH train across every day? how viable is this? what are some good places if i were to do this?

TIA! :)

hey there, I live accross the river so, I dont know many hotel etc around here but do know the PATH pretty well. I take it everyday to work.

Its pretty convinient as such, but has two major pains

- It can get too damn crowded, esp in weekday mornings.
- On weekends, the frequency can drop as low as 30 - 40 minutes, so if you miss one you wait for the other for that time

Also, there are ferries which run on many riverside parts of Jersey to Manhattan.

thanks vagabond
how long is a ride on those ferries? frequency? and the cost? i'm assuming taking the PATH is just a few minutes long and the cost pretty low?

Does anyone know some decent hotels within walking distance of these options?

as you can tell i like to micromanage my trips ;)

If you go downtown , ferry is 3 bucks midtown is 5 bucks which includes the bus from the piers to times square. frequency, I have no idea, never took the ferry! But I'm guessing may be 20 minutes

path 1.5 bucks a ride.
