Hi all,

I'm new to this so I hope I've done this right!

I'm planning a six month solo tour of the USA hoping to finish off in the American Rockies late May/ early June. I'm wondering what advice anybody has for the best way to see the Rockies (on a tour, public transport etc) or generally any advice.
I particularly want to get to the big national parks, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Rocky Mountain etc. to hike. I'm not against hiring a car, as from what I've read its the easiest way, but it's not my first choice as it will be quite expensive on my own (also I'm 22 and there are often surcharges).

Thanks in advance.

With six months, I would consider getting an Amtrak USA pass for the first 45 days and for the last 45 days--and then get buses or rental cars for moving around during the 3 months in-between.

This way you can travel around a whole lot at the beginning and the end--and then spend a lot of time in the middle of your trip in the Rocky Mountain areas by staying in just the Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado areas.

With 6 months in the US, you might give some thought to buying a car/van, tour the US, sell it when finished. Send me a PM if you have any interest in driving around the US. Mike
