Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has advice/ ideas for a solo traveller over the Christmas and New Year period in the USA? I'd like to do something really special for both and I'm at a loss. I'm thinking about booking a trip with TrekAmerica- it would be nice to be in company over the period (though not essential)- but they are quite expensive.

Thanks in advance!

Really, there are four major choices (these are my recommendations--in the order given):

(1) Go to a Ski Lodge--like in Stowe, Vermont--or Lake Tahoe (Stateline, Nevada--where there are both casinos and ski resorts), or Vail, Colorado (or Mt. Bachelor in Oregon or Taos, New Mexico, or Jackson, Wyoming). I'd say Lake Tahoe is best for a single traveller.

(2) Go to New York City (lots of stuff to do both over Christmas and New Years)--broadway shows, radio city music hall, rockefeller center, and New Years eve parties

(3) Go to Los Angeles. Not so much to do at Christmas, but there is lots to do on New Year's Eve--like go to parties or to the giant block party on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena (the Rose Parade goes down this road the next morning and people camp out all night and have a giant party while waiting for the parade). You could also drive the 4 hours to Las Vegas for a new Years eve party.

(4) Go to Miami--South Beach. I'm sure this place would be rocking all Christmas week long.
