One other point to add to this - the photos aren't the *only* quality score taken into account. Featured blog entries also give a large boost, larger than a single photo being featured.

I think the titles, and postcounts, do help newcomers get their bearings. Understanding that someone has contributed a lot at least lets them know that the likelihood of that person knowing a thing or two is higher. And knowing that they have posted that much adds to a sense that this community really is quite active.

Being new here, I would like to put in my two cent worth. I personally don't think there should be any rank or names for the number of posts one does posts on here. It encourages one to just post to increase their rank. If you look at that other travel site VT you will find that the same person will post two or three replies to one question in hopes of increasing or keep their rank, and I find that most of those on VT that do this are those with the highest rank.

And welcome to TP frequentflyer! I've never heard of this VT site ( ), but you will surely find that no TP member would ever do that kind of thing!!

VT= Virtual Tourist.com, they have no moderators, that keep the forums focused, there travel guides which members post to with information about a certain place are not up to date, but go back years and years, which in most cases are no longer relavant any longer, posts go on and on and on, it is suppose to be a forum for answering a travel question, unfortunately, most do not read the answers to the posts and the same answers are posted over and over again, it could be a good site, and there are some good questions and some good answers, but alot of the members just like to "hear" themselves speak. I have been a member for many years, but I really don't participate any longer.

Sorry, that was a poor attempt at a joke from my side... You'll find I attempt that from time to time but it doesn't always work out well in writing. I am familiar with VT. Sorry to hear it's turned out like that. It was bought by Tripadvisor in 2008 I know. That might've had some effect on the community?

Yes, I had thought that trip advisor had purchased or had something to do with VT, I am an avid poster on TA with about 140 hotel reviews,I also noticed that some of them are ending up on VT, not of my choosing, guess they are being transfered between web sites. I notice even now TA is getting very impersonable, recently when I post I get some automated resonse about "wow another great post" or something like that. But I do contribute to TA at least I can say that my reviews on that web site are my own.

It's funny, on VT I couldn't find any reference to TA being the owner. I had to google it and get it answered by Wikipedia. They must be trying to keep the brands as separate as possible for advertisers or something.

By the way, if any of those reviews are for hostels, guesthouses or budget hotels, we'd love it if you considered adding them to our budget accommodation area as well you know! :) Sorry, couldn't help but mention it!
