I just joined your community yesterday and noticed that you offer the facility to keep a diary and post travel logs etc. Do these facilities work like a blog? Is there any limit on how long you can keep them for etc. and is it all free? Seems to be which is great!
Yep, the diary functionality is there to use for all members. It is indeed free and has been for several years. That's not going to change either by the way. And yes, you can keep the posts as long as you want.
It's pretty similar to a blog but there are some slight differences that most people probably won't notice/know.
We recently also added the photo upload feature which allows you to link diary entries to photos that you have uploaded. The photos have to be under 50 kb but that's pretty standard for website photos.
Excellant, cant wait to start putting some stuff on it, not least cos I cant wait to set off travelling and leave the daily grind behind for at least a while......
The main thing you might want to remember is what link to give your friends or family if you are going to be sharing your diary publicly (or via the password privately) with them.... I noticed recently this is actually not too clear
In your case it would be http://www.travellerspoint.com/member_profile.cfm?user=andrwcris for example and then they'd need your profile password (different than the one you use to log on) to view your diary.
Hi Sam and/or Peter,
I have just made several sequential entries in my travel log, one immediately after the other. All but one are in order. Is there a way to bring the one out of sequence back into sequence? I did not stop between entries, nor do an "update" on any. I'm just curious if I can fix this somehow.
Ah, I can see what the problem is... I went to your profile looking for your diary but only found one entry. Then noticed all the posts down below in your travel log. This is sorted a bit more broadly than diary entries since generally it is a per month kind of thing (one month you are here, the next you are there etc). The diary is more meant for day to day posts and is (naturally) also sorted by day.
Hmm, maybe this isn't so clear actually coming to think of it with the amount of people calling logs and diaries the same thing. When we set up Travellerspoint, the travel log was meant as a 'log' of past travels, so along the lines of 'China, Feb 2001' with a very short description (you must have run into some trouble with the amount of characters allowed too?). The diary allows 10 000 characters per day which is plenty for most
Now, assuming you want to change this, the easiest way is copy/paste since we're not talking about a hundred entries or so. Still a bit of a pain though but I am afraid there's not a quicker way
Sorry about that.... what would have made it clearer for you?
Thanks for the help, Sam!
Yes, that does clear things up. Since our travels are that frequent, I thought I would log them instead. But, since it's not designed for that purpose, I will move things over. Not a problem for me.
Sorry - our travels are NOT that frequent is what I meant to type...
Well, of course you're free to leave them there too! The sorting just won't be as nice And you can't add the cute little weather icons
