biglee has indicated that this thread is about Nepal

I am planning to stop in Nepal on my RTW trip, and i am getting conflicting advice as to which trek to do. I have heard that the Annapurna Circuit is the best/most beautiful trek, is this true?

Hi biglee,
I don't think your problem is which trek to choose - Nepal is in a state of emergency at present, with the King having sacked the government.
Make sure you research this before you set off.
As for which trek, I would say that depends on your ability - fitness etc.
If you're a regular walker or otherwise fairly fit, the basic Annapurna walk may be a bit tame. I think there are two 'levels' though, one being higher and longer than the other.
I've been to Everest Base Camp through the Khumbu valley, a well trod route, but also incredibly beautiful. If you love mountains you won't go far wrong wherever you go. So choose a route that fits you.
PS the Tengboche monastery not far from Namche Bazaar on the EBC route was a fantastic place. You can just walk this far instead of having to go all the way to EBC.

Ignoring safety/current political considerations etc (and i also have no persona experince of either), but the general conscensus seems to be that Everest is done for the "been there" factor as much as anything, whilst Anapurna (in full) is more challenging, diverse and scenic.

That's not to say the Everest trek isn't beautiful or challenging in places, but apparently from a trekking point of view it's not overly taxing or satisfying except top know you've made it to the base camp.

But that's all second hand info/experiences.

Hi guys,
I'm a brazilian travelling in India now, leaving to KTM on 7th march. Two days ago I met some travellers coming from Nepal and they said the situation there is not that easy...
Everything outside KTM valley is under maoist control (all the mountain areas).
The maoist imposed a 1000 days strike for transportations and every single bus have to depart under nepalese army protection.
Personally I won't give up my plans, but I won't go to Pokara anymore.
I'm leaving on a tour to EBCamp via Romgbuk, maybe safer than go to annapurna.
