Hi All,

I am going to travel to Australia for 6 months, as it is my first time i would be greatful if anyone had any tips/advice for me before i go. How much money should i try and save up? I will find some work but was planning on spending the first month exploring and enjoying myself!! Whats their currency and how much to the english pound?
Thanks for your help!

The currency is the Aussie dollar and the exchange rate you can get off teletext, main post office,s or travel agents it was about $2.28 to the pound. You will also need to sort out a working visa if you are going for six months and working. As to the amount of money you will need you will have to work that one out for yourself.

I have been staying here in Oz now for 2 months. I am from the US and love it here....however I am stunned at how expensive things are and how there is not alot of avaiability of alot of items that I am occustomed to in the US. My advice is bring as much money as you can. Stay in Hostels and go on budget tours. A great place to enquire about accomodation and budget tours is:

http://www.ozmagic.homestead.com

They are very helpful in giving helpful hints of do's and don'ts on tours and can book inexpensive places to stay like hostels or hotels that are clean and well managed.

Hope this helps!

I have now been back from OZ fornearly 1 year and miss it so much you would not belive. I went out there for 1 year and did the whole coast (inc the West) and did the Central Terretory.
Before i went i saved up £6,000, this lasted me 8 months without working. I stayed in all the cheapest hostels and i did not eat out very much, but i did do tours and went out drnking lots.
You have to be cautious with your money but it payes of in the end because you dont have to spend all your time working.
I hope you enjoy your trip as much as i did
Good luck:)
