First time travel to Central and South America advice!

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean First time travel to Central and South America advice!

I am planning on taking a year out between university and getting a full time job next year, and there are so many places I want to go and see! But I've really been thinking of Latin America-I'd love to go to Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil, and I wanted some advice really, as what is the best route, and how to make the most of my time.
I have looked into perhaps doing a 2/3 week Spanish language course in Costa Rica, so I will be able to speak the language! Would this be a good idea, worth my time? And then how would I travel down into South America?
Also what is then the best route around South America? I am interested in Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Brazil, and just wondering what people think I really shouldn't be missing out on, and what is the best route.
Also, how long should I be giving myself to do this, and when is the best time to go? I'm thinking either October time, or January/February time? And how much money would I need?!
Thanks!

Hello,

Im off travelling for the first time and going alone within the next few months. I really want to see Peru and Brazil either before I head off to asia, auz and NZ or on my way back.

If anyone could help would be great, I have pretty much the same questions as dottyjane...

The idea is worth your while if you are not happy with sign language!
We just had a young world traveler who spent such time in a language school in Costa Rica before traveling south to Ecuador, Peru, Chile, etc.
It does help to converse with locals!
Check with Academia-Columbus dot com to find out about courses and rates. You can also write to me off-forum if necessary.;)
