Passport (Urgent question)

Travel Forums North America Passport (Urgent question)

Hi all,

Im travelling to America in June and i have some passport worries.
2 years ago my passport went through the wash, the damage isnt awful, of course the cover is slightly warped and the pages curl up at the end, the photo page is VERY slightly peeling away in one corner.
I've travelled to Europe 6-7 times since this happened with no issues what so ever, BUT having been to America before i know they are very strict and i dont know whether to risk it, arriving there to be detained, questioned and potentially turned away.
BUT the passport expires in less than 2 years so i'd need to spend £80 on a replacement passport now and another £100 in less than 2 years on a new one, and my money is very very tight right now (Having booked an america holiday and saving like crazy for a hotel etc).

Any thoughts/experiences or even ex-current passport control workers who can advise me on what best to do or how to check?!

Thanks all, very much appreciated

Why do you think you would have to pay again in 2 years time? If you renew your passport now (I'm presuming this is a UK passport) then you will get a passport for 10 years + 9 months. Current cost for a UK-based application is £77.50 by the look of it.

You would be much safer to get a new passport, as you could find yourself not even getting onto the flight.

Hey mojorob,

I'd have to pay again in 2 years because now i have to get a "Replacement" passport as mine hasnt expired, its merely damaged, then it will expire in 2 years (just under in fact) meaning i then need to get a "Renewal"

If it's not really badly damaged, then I would suggest ticking the renewal box on the form rather than replacement. You would get a passport for 10 years + 9 months - you can renew passports that have more than 9 months validity, but you only get 9 months added onto the new one.
