Having twodifferent countries' visas for Schengen area

Hi

I am from South korea and in Korea now but already have a resident visa for Sweden due to my relationship with my Swedish boyfriend. My original plan was to go back to Sweden soon. But now I have a chance to go as a visiting researcher to Germany for 9 months. I think I need to apply for a German visa for this. But I worry a lot they will say I already have a visa for another Schengen country so can't apply for their country's visa too. I asked the German embassy here but they don't give very clear answer, just say German side will decide later.

Anyone has any experience or input about a similar situation.

Schengen visa are issued for the whole Schengen area, long term visa are issued by the individual countries for this country only.
So I see no problem in applying for a long term visa for Germany.
