Well I will be coming over from SE Asia so its going to be a huge shock for me I think, I was planning on having 4 - 6 weeks of doing nothing just excursions/day trips, boat trips/diving and partying but then try find a a job so I can just work and chill by a beach for a few months and then move on.

How long are you planning on staying for and how much money do you think you will need roughly? Because its so expensive its hard to know what to take because if you get a job you wont need much but then if your stuck with no job you might be leaving sooner than planned.

I think il arrive either March/April depending on if I fall in love with SE Asia or not lol but I was thinking head for Sydney and then make my way up the East Coast and try find work in Port Douglas as I know thats where all the aussies head for there holidays so hopefully alot of hotel/bar work in that area.

I seriously cant wait any longer but I guess its good having something so amazing to look forward to :)

Well I booked so much before in advance mainly because I used my Visa and I plan on paying the ticket off until June so that once my next two holidays are over I'll start hardcore saving just spending money you know..but yeah, it was quite a cheap flight was about EUR 600 with Emirates which is very cheap from Malta! Plus I paid an extra 80 or so to have an option to change my flights dates 3 times..but it was through statravel so it was a bargain because of that too. You should check it out if you're under 26 or a student!! - The same exact flight combinations were EUR 320 more expensive from skyscanner.

RC2012: Same plan re times of visiting places and so on then working :) I'm scared re job thing too =/ I can't see myself quitting my job and selling my car then having to come back after just 2 months :( I have no plans as to how long I'll stay..just going to wing it..but I';m hoping Ill manage to find some job...any job!!

It is abit nerve racking to wait so long!! :) I keep acting out loads of scenes in my head...quitting my job, telling people, saying bye to friends and family in the airport! I think about it aaaall the time hehe :)

Yeah I'm 22 and still have a student card although I havent been a student in almost 4 years :) i've spoke with STA alot here in the UK and they've been amazing and so cheap, i'm booking everything in the next week or so, getting nervous that i'm actually going to do it but I cant wait either.

I'm quitting my job but if it all goes wrong and I have to come home I hated the job anyway so I will be happy coming back knowing I didnt quit for no reason :D it will be hard saying bye to friends, family and my gf knowing that if everything is amazing and works out I might be gone for 2+ years

You will probably be in Aus before me so you will have to give me advice on finding jobs and places to go :)

Hehehe nice..They really are incredibly cheap :) Lemme know when you book then! What fun!

Yeah true re job! Not like you'd be missing out on much then by quitting...are you actually going traveling in Australia indefinitely and you have a gf? Wow I wouldn't imagine myself doing that hehe. I'm quite lucky that I'm single and plan to be until I leave..fingers crossed though coz you never know really =/ But I truly hope so!

I will give you advice o whatever I learn for sure ;)

Hi Steffi,

Im going to Brisabane in Feb too :-) so nervous and excited. My first time travelling aswell.

Exactly and they give lots of advice which is what I need at the moment. If everything works out fine and I enjoy it then I might be gone for 2-3 years atleast so I will be single when I leave but thats kind of hard leaving a perfectly good relationship for travelling but I have the money which I probably wont again and i've wanted to go for the last 5 years so we have agreed to break up and see what happens in the future, thats the worst part about going.

Chelsea are you just travelling Aus or you going to be working to?

Hi RC,

Im going to be working as well as travelling, as i hear aus is expensive so my funds will always need topping up.

Just hope it isnt too hard in finding a job as i would love to do a full year, and ideally do some fruit picking, as i hear if you do it for 3 month you are set for a 2nd visa :-)

When are you heading down under? You have anything booked yet?
Ive just booked my flights through STA travel. So its definatley set in stone now ha.

Just been reading your previous post about quitting your job, i cant wait to do that either i hate mine, but i suppose i should consider myself lucky as there are alot of people in England out of work! Did your gf, not want to go travelling with you? are you going alone or with friends?

Hey Chelsea,

I've saved for SE Asia but if ive got any left I dont want to just waste it trying to survive in Aus so I will definitely be working (I hope) not really sure how much il need, some people only go with a few thousand... but yeah I know if you do 88 days of work in a non regional place (basically not a built up city) and it can either be farm work or contruction you can get a 2nd year visa but I have heard of some people just apply for a 2nd year and get it but this is only what i've been told.

A few friends went last year so I might see them before they come back but I want to go on my own.

Yeah I guess i'm lucky having a job if it wasnt so difficult to get another I would of quit months ago lol.

Nothings booked yet but thinking of leaving for SE Asia early Sept and will be in Aus this time next year but will book my flight to Aus when im out there, when and where are you heading?
