I'm graduating from college in may and I'm taking a year off before going to grad school. I really want to travel to Central/South America ...improve on my Spanish, and really just have an adventure. I've never really done much traveling at all, aside from road trips from around New Jersey to Canada (so, yeah nothing crazy), and I especially, have never done anything like this alone. But I want to take this year to really gain some awesome life experiences, and I feel like going abroad is necessary.
I've been looking for months for cheap volunteer abroad programs, but inexpensive programs are very hard to find.. and, as an almost college grad and someone who still needs to get through grad school, I'm working on a tight budget. I just joined this forum hoping for some insight... basically, what I'm looking for is: advice, travel companions (someone with similar goals and maybe some experience and organizational skills?), or if someone could refer me to an inexpensive volunteer or even work program, I'd be very happy!! I would love to do something in my area of expertise (going to be a physical therapist) but I know that it's probably a little unrealistic to think I'll get exactly what I want. even if I can't work or volunteer, I'd be happy to just travel and experience different cultures.. I really just don't know how to go about doing this.
as you can tell, I'm pretty unorganized, so any help would be appreciated! hoping to leave june/july/august or whatever!
thanks in advance for any help!!!
