Dorm rooms in Bali and Jakarta

Jakarta doesn't seem to have Dorm room options... Well, Manila is also not a good place to hunt for hostel with dorm rooms. It's not even a good city to look for hostels. Now is Jakarta like Manila, in terms of hostel availability. I prefer those YHA hostels or anything that looks traveler friendly.

Now, I've been told that Bali has lots of cheap accommodations. Hostelworld seem to have done some changes with the site. I need a new site to look for accommodations, if I still find it inconvenient to do my searches.

Well Cambodia has 1-3 dollar dorms. Does Bali have that option??? Sihanoukville and Siem Reap have it, but it's not online.

I also want to ask:

How would you go to East Timor from Bali, if you want to save money.

Why not Travellerspoint? We actually list more budget accommodation/hostels than hw does, and booking here helps keep the site running :)

I never looked at it... well now I won't have to open another window for hostel search.
I get comfortable with one thing and I get stuck there, until they make changes, and it gets confusing.

If you wouldn't mind giving a price range, I could try to help with your query about rooms in Jakarta. Jalan Jaksa (Jaksa Road) is the name of the street (walking distance to the/A center of the city, which would be Jalan Thamrin/Sarinah department store) where a few hostels can be found, but it's...not nearly anything like similar backpacker depots such as Khaosan Road in Bangkok. In other words, it's a bizarre mix of middle-aged white men, transvestites and rooms without windows. Depending on your budget, I could recommend staying near Jalan Mangga Dua Besar VII, or thereabouts. You should be able to check the room out beforehand, and maybe even negotiate a better price with the staff, depending on whether or not they've already had their kretek (clove cigarette) break.

Thanks, I'll check this street online. I've stayed in Chungking Mansions so many times in Hong Kong. I can handle such accomodations in Jakarta for a few days.

Jaksa Road... Jakarta is probably like Manila, which I hate, because I am local. But I'm gonna whatever Jakarta has to offer. Besides if it's too expensive, I'm off to Sumatra.

Well, the average room for those who really need to save is 125,000 rupiah. After hours of walking of without a map, I found one for 60,000 and it has a bathroom inside the room, plus breakfast. Which is how I managed to have an epic stay in Balinese heaven. (KUTA).
