Has anyone used one of these while travelling?

I didn't even know that there was such a thing but apparantly there is!

When I'm on the net a quick and rough convert is useful (www.xe.com)
I've never used a handheld one though, bit of a waste of money isn't it???

I use oanda.com all the time (has a great history function) when I am working, but when it comes to travelling, I go for an approximate easy to use calculation and stick with head math if I am trying to figure out prices and so forth. Much faster and one less thing to carry along (seeing as I usually take my head with me when travelling ... :) )

I usually just use quick math, like Sam does.

Strangely, though, I actually usually convert into U.S. Dollars instead of Canadian dollars. Much easier to find the exchange rate for U.S. Dollars in most places, and a lot of places will take U.S. Dollars in addition to local currency. Sometimes, they would prefer U.S. Dollars to local currency.

As for getting rates, I use the currency calculator at the Bank of Canada.
