My dd age 16 will be going to England/Scotland in July. The trip is 12 days. We don't have a complete itenerary yet but I'm sure there will be free time. She will be with a large group of about 40, a mix of kids and adults.
How much spending money should I send with her? The trip and accommodations are paid for. Most meals are included. It think she will be responsible for about 4 or 5 meals on her own.
Should I send her with cash? Traveler's Checks?
I'm not really too sure on the spending habits of 16 year olds, but i can tell you the costs of a few things here in Blighty. It's a lot more expensive than the States for just about everything. A decent meal at a restaurant/cafe with a drink will be from about £8 upwards depending on how many courses you want. I would allow at least £20 a day all in. Travellers cheques against cash is personal preference really. There is no shortage of places to cash a TC, but England is safe enough to carry cash. Like anywhere though, there is always the risk of being pickpocketed or losing cash and then you're stuck!!
I echo dave h-it is expensive and i think £20 a day should be enough-i would personally bring cash-it's easier. I always take more money than needed just for extra security but thats just me! depends what they are going to be doing really, yeh i mean a cheap meal you could prob get for...well what dave said really, thats the lower budget end of the market, really you can spend as much as you want!
