I have the same problem with long flights. Not jet lag, but just that I can't sleep in an airplane. When I fly home from Dalian, China to Toronto, Canada, it's agony: 1 hour flight- 5 hour stopover- 11 hour flight- 2-3 hour stopover- 5 hour flight. So, about 25 hours without sleep, on top of jet lag (a 12-13 hour difference) and the general discomfort of economy class plane travel. And my family wonders why I don't go home more often!
Travelling by train or ship, however, is very different. Then the voyage itself is as much fun as the destination. If there was an overland route from China to Canada, or a cruise I could afford, I would take it.
