I went backpacking in Europe back in 2004 ( 6 years ago ) I went during the not so busy season. I know things in July are a lot diffrent in regards to how crowded it will be.
I was wondering though about the Eurail pass ( 1 month - every day )
I'm so confused. In this busy season do I need to call ahead to go all over Europe? Or can I wing it and buy the tickets at the stations as I did when I went in May of 2004? Or will have to book ahead of time EVERY single ticket ( could get expensive since I hear they charge for these reservations).
Also I remember getting the Ferries for free ( from Sweden to FInland , Ancona to Patras & Barcelona to Ibiza ) Is it also advisable and should I book ahead of time for these also?
On my last trip we showed up at the port and got our tickets right away but we didn't get a seat. We lounged around the deck and also the inside of ship. We carried our sleeping bags and slept on the deck. In high season is this also possible??
Can someone advise me on this?
