Hi im new to this site and my names James. I recently travelled to Cairns in QLD Australia. On my travels i came across a native Austalian otherwise known as an aboriginal. He had just walked out of the pub and smelled strongly of alcohol. I was alone and there was no-one else in the street. He walked straight up to me and asked me very wierdly if I could spare him 97 dollars. I just ran away, because I was scared. And I was wondering what you guys would do if you were in the same situation.

A simple "Sorry Mate" is usually enough I've found.

Welcome to TP :)

I agree, a simple "sorry, mate" is usually okay.... unless you were flashing cash around in public, it's unlikely to be more need than to keep walking.

Be an ex Cairns lad I used to get asked by many a drunk both black and white if I had a smoke/pack of smokes/$1/$20 etc....

I got tired of being asked 4 or 5 times in a 5 minute walk, I ended up just saying "Yes! I have lots of cigarettes!" and would keep walking.... It seemed to work.

Cheers,

Just say "Damn, i was hoping you could spare me 100" and see what he says

Yeah, just say "sorry, mate" and keep on walking. That usually works best for me. If they follow just keep on walking and ignore them until they give up. Don't get into any discussion or anything, or explanation why....

I'd go with the 'sorry mate' option too.

But if you had a really quick wit and wanted to be a smart ass, wouldn't you say something like, 'sure, can you break a 100?' :)

Why 97 I wonder...
