Am trying to work out my route in Peru and am wondering if ye would think this is possible, or am I pushing time too much?
I will be flying to Lima on Dec 29th and staying there until Jan 2nd. Bus to Ica for an overnight stay, maybe 2, then on to Nazca for one or two nights. Overnight bus to Arequipa and minimum of three days for acclimatization, then overnight bus to Cusco for a night and on to the Inca Trail. After the 4 day hike we take overnight to Puno for two days and then bus to La Paz Bolivia.
I have a time slot of three weeks to do all this. Am I trying to pack too many trips into such a short period of time?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Your schedule looks pretty good to me. I think it is all possible in three weeks. A good thing to do from Arequipa is a trip to Colca canyon. I went on a two night trip and its a good warm up hike before the Inca Trail. Apart from that, maybe spend more time in Cusco. It's a really good place.
Getting around in Peru is easy because there are a lot of buses and the overnight ones are great for the long distances. I would normally get the people at the hostel to recommend and book for me the day before if I was certain of my plans or just go directly to the bus station sometimes.
Do you have your Inca trail booked? Its the first thing you should do.
Booking the Inca trail in January can be left until pretty late. It's the middle of the rainy season, so many days don't even sell out (last I looked at least).
