I have an old Nikon Nikkromat 35mm that I absolutely love. I used to take it everywhere, lugging around a camera bag the size of small luggage. Now, I have a Fugi FinePix 2600Z and a Sealife Reefmaster DC250. Though the digitals are much easier to travel with, I liked the versatility of the Nikon, just not it's cumbersome nature.
How many travelers still use a 35mm and how do you decide what goes with you vs what stays at home. If you use both, a comparison would be greatly appreciated.
I have a really nice 35 mm at home collecting dust Didn't take it on one single trip last year which I am somewhat embarrassed to say. I have the same problem though, it's just so much luggage to carry and after getting a nice new digital last year, that's been along instead.
I daresay that if I head off on a trip by myself for a while and do it the backpacking way (like maybe the transsib later this year), it will go along again though.
Tough call, they both have some benefits!
I make the choice often when i go for a trip.
Normaly i use my Digital SLR as my main camera but often i take my 35mm slr as a spare.
What to take is always the question. But on most of my trips it turns out that i am more then happy with my 17-40 and 28-135 mm and a 1.4 converter.
And all this go's in had luggage (35mm go's in luggage).
And YES this is more weight then airlines allow but i never even had one airline complain (or even weigh it)
