Hello there i am on my way to oz in a few weeks and i have had to cut my time there to just 4 weeks and 3 days to get from sydney to Cairns is this impossible i know it is a long way i don`t mind rushing a bit and have got pretty used to long bus rides as i am in south america! Any ideas how many hours it is up the east coast? Any infomation would be really helpful cheers.

oh no thats fine!! Four weeks will be good, better if you could have longer but you will have a great time. Grey hound bus pass is best i reckon...i found it stopped off at the all the right places and is reasonably priced. It can take as little as 8 days solid travelling so four weeks is plenty!!!
Depending on how much money you have to splash out on i would reccommend the following stop offs.....

  • Sydney (obvious but give yourself some time here!! its am AWESOME city and there is SOOO much to see and do)
  • Byron bay...stay a couple of days it will grow on you and you will fall in love with it!! Awesome beach and small town community feel to it!!
  • Surfers Paradise
  • Brisbane
  • 1770/Anges Water its small place but AMAZING!!Try and do their sunset tour its great!
  • Rainbow Beach and do the Fraser Island 3 day camping trip
  • Airlie Beach and do the 3 day ish sailing trip to the Whitsundays (cannot be missed!!)

Mission beach for a rest from partying and do a sky dive on to the beach.
CAirns..you have to do some snorkelling on barrier reef if not a dive course!

From Brisbane up there is AMAMZING snorkalling on the barrier reef and its different every place you go!!
If you want any more info or advice please feel free to ask...i just came back form Oz (well SEpt) and i LOVED every second of it!!
Hope you have fun
Becca :)

oh becca, that really helps me, except i'm going to oz in October and only for 3 weeks-well minus the travelling it will be something like just under, so glad that, that is enough time, obviously i'm a week short off of daisy!

I'm planning to do Sydney and then along the east coast-any info on prices and hostels-anything would be of great help to me!! yipee! oh it really sounds like you had an awesome time-so glad! was you alone btw??

ok well depending on how much money you got depends on what hostel you go to. i think i averaged on 15-20 AUD. you can get cheaper if you wana go in bigger dorms but i prefered the smaller dorms.
yes i did travel alone and it was fine! met tonnes of people in the hostels and it was all good!!

most people go to Woolworths (huge supermarket) and make food in the communal kitchens so its always easy to chat to people over food. that cuts cost really!! i lived off toast and noodles!! lol!!
i have to go now but i will write with any other qyuestions you have

Becs-just the thought of all this is so very exciting, i've never travelled before and am really looking forward to this. I was expecting to pay around £10 a night, money isnt too much of a problem although obviously after the flight i want to spend as little as poss!!

How much and where did you get a flight? i've found quantas (direct flight) for £750-which i found is great-havent booked yet tho!

What hostels did you stay in? ive emailed a few but cant remember which ones they were-they were in sydney!

i'll prob PM you! thanks for the help-it is appreciated!
