Hi Ciara, Caitlin + others,
I'm flying into Melbourne from London early August and would love to meet some fellow travelers as I too am a lone wanderer! I'm hoping to spend a bit of time working in melb before maybe heading off around oz to find some seasonal work and check out the country a bit more.
I'm in Melbourne, been here for 7 months first with friends, now with my boyfriend (who I met here... romances do happen) just living and working here. At the moment it's absolutely freezing, but the sun shone through today so fingers crossed our horrible winter is almost over! September is a great time to be in Melbourne, there's so much going on.
Book yourselves into a backpackers (I've lived in a CBD hostel, an apartment, and we're now in a hostel in St Kilda (a beach suburb 10 mins from the CBD and so much calmer than being right in the city), be prepared to work hard (it's expensive as hell out here) and party harder.
When I started my travels in Asia in October I was completely alone and I've made so many great lifelong friends already.
Don't stress too much about being a lone wolf, everyone is in the same boat.. the big groups you see hanging out together in the hostels didn't all fly out together; they've become friends only a few weeks prior. As long as you like your socialising and partying, you'll fit in in any Aussie backpackers.
P.S- if any of you have hospo experience my job will be up for grabs at some point Aug/Sept time!
Good luck girlies!
Thanks for sharing this information about the life living in Australia, I never new that it's
expensive out there, because no one tells me about it. So it means if I'll be traveling to
Australia I need to bring enough money.
