Hi people

Has anyone stayed in the conservation campsites in New Zealand, Ive been looking into them and they seem like a good, cheap option of accomodation while travelling. Anyone got any advise?

Also do you think they are off the beat and track and it would be necessary to have your own transport to get to and from them. Id love to get a car in New Zealand so you can go where you want and when, but also a bit worried we would have problems selling it before we left, any advise on this too.

Thanks a mill

Condervation campsites tend to be in some of teh most beautiful places, but usually not close to public transport, so a car would be necessary. Some spots have huts available, usually by prebooking. Matai Bay in the Far North must be one of the most beautiful coastal places I have ever stayed at, cold showers though! Dept Of Conservation has a website, www.doc.govt.nz it may have mor einfo on camping than I can give you. Another option is to stay on various farms, just knock on the farmers door and ask if you can camp, but don't forget to give them a few dollars or a little present, they appreciate it
