Where are you going? The best organizations are the local ones so this really differs depending on country...

Dear Sammy,

Volunteering is the best way to experience a country as you work with the people and thus learn about their culture and country. Africa Calling is a great company, locally based which can give you 24 hour support, very important. They are also registered with responsibletravel.com , a good yardstick to measure their performance with. Rather strict criteria to be allowed to join. Check out the 2005/6 Coast to Coast book, they have advertised in there and are offering a discount!!!
Enjoy it, it is really worth it. Your profile says that you are studying but you are 6!! is this right or possibly 26??
Have a great time in South Africa, a wonderful country.

Sammy,

I did a voluteering placement in Cape Town in the Sept rehabilitating African Penguins with a charity called SANNCOB. If you where interested I could try and get their contact details. Be warned though - they have a pretty sharp beak!

I did a Conservation Expedition in Zambia with Greenforce and it was just great. Although Greenforce pulled out of Zambia the former Camp Coordinator is trying to keep it going and has been allowed to keep the name Greenforce.
I am still in contact with them and I know them personally so I can recommend them fullheartedly. But they are in the initial phase of trying to set up and get a project going, so I don't know exactly what the status is.
But if you are interested, please send me a PM and I will check it out.

Phil.
