Hi all,

Some friends and myself have recently just started talking about planning a trip into Asia and I'm just wondering about how much money I'd need. The countries we're interested in going to are China, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Would someone be able to provide a rough estimate for per day costs within those countries? We're all in our early 20's so we're not opposed to saving money you might say!

Thanks!

I always check a currency exchange site to get a handle on another country's currency. This helps when researching accom sites, food/drinks, places to visit with entry fees, transport costs etc. All the information is available on the internet. Then you can work out how much you need for each country depending on how long you stay. I carry a credit card as a backup.

It really depends what you want to do.

If you and your friends fancy a week or two volunteering within each country then maybe looking into a specialist company. I think that www.gapguru.com are pretty good. I think they do a 'Asia Experience' programme too!

I know a couple of people who have done this and they loved it!

By what I know I think the countries are fairly cheap when you get there (my bestfriend got a room in a 5* hotel in Thailand for £10 a night), and if you're really worried a credit card is always handy (for emergencies).

I spend a lot of time in Thailand and I can spend as little as $10 Canadian per day. That's cheap accomodation, buying beer at the store and having food at markets. You can spend about $30 and live like queens. It's a bit more if you go to the Andaman Sea side (Railay, Phi Phi). This is based on the towns, the North, Bangkok and Gulf of Thailand side (Ko Samui, Ko Phangnan).
