I find the program you are using to be a pain in the butt. I like the idea of the site and am tring to post when ever i have info to share with others but if you used vBulletin Version 2.3.0 by Jelsoft Enterprises Limited it would be more fun.
How well look at www.dtmpower.net goto forums the people posting get to use pictures and sigs the pic at the end of the post. How is that good. Well you get to know people better. Also when I put a wedsite for people to look at like www.ryanair.com the vBulletin makes it a lick people could just click on and the page will open.
Like your site like the idea but I wish people would spend more time posting and sharing info and pic and storys I really think a format like this would help
to see what i mean look here
see how people have a pic under there name? It would be a country flag or it could be a pic of them or there fav beer. And under ever post you could let people write about themselfs or but a pic of there last trip.
On question please where are the owners of this site from?
Thanks Dillon aka Hofbrau
I run this site together with my brother Sam. We're half Dutch, half American; Sam's living in Norway and I'm living in Australia. Thanks a ton for your feedback - I created the forum from scrath, preferring to have a little more control rather than use someone else's software. It also means I can update things to suit our users. There are other reasons too, but I won't go on and on about it
The things you mentioned certainly are little niceties that can make a forum a little more interesting. I have been meaning to add sigs for a while at least, so you can count on seeing that one at some stage.
The avatars (pics under name) is a possibility, although it has never been something particularly high on my list of important things in a forum. I have been a member of forums where I have noticed the admin has to spend an awful lot of time monitoring what pictures people are putting up (too big? adult content? etc..). The idea of flags is great though - I will certainly look into that - of course with over 200 countries to take into account, this would take some time to get ready
The links not linking is actually done on purpose at the moment to discourage spammers, but I think we will reconsider as we are keeping it under control pretty well.
Pictures in posts is an interesting idea, but one that doesn't rank very highly on my to-do list. It again means more risk of dodgy pictures, which means more scanning by admin. I am still open to the idea though, so if there are any other members who would feel strongly about this, please let us know. One area that we are more likely to add this sooner rather than later though, is in the diary segment - so potentially the two could be linked.
I'll be working on this site a lot more in a couple of months time after I've quit my job, so be prepared for a forum overhaul
A couple of the things you mentioned have been fixed up recently, so I figured I should update.. for starters the links will now automatically be created. There has been a more complete thread with people's suggestions here as well:
The avatar option was discussed quite a lot and I think the consensus is that more people would prefer it not to be there.. It may become a possibility at some stage, but only as a preference option - so people can turn it off.
Still working on the sigs option
